A rendezvous in the dark
An interactive blindfolded dance performance – and you are both the performer and blind.
Performers and audience are barefoot.
A cycle takes eight minutes.
Four to five people can participate in a cycle.
There are several cycles in the evening.
A total of four dancers will be participating in „Blind Date.“.
In „Blind Date,“ the audience becomes the most important part of the show.
In the participatory performance, visitors have their eyes covered and are guided through a space they don't know and can't see by dancers they don't know and can't see. The dance begins slowly and gradually becomes more intense until, after eight minutes, the audience's sight is restored. However, the blindfolds are only removed after leaving the space. Visitors don't know what the space looked like or who their companions were for the past eight minutes. What remains is an impression beyond the visual world.
When one sense is taken away, the others sharpen. Yet, consciousness also turns inward: movement, breath, and music bring us into a sort of meditative state. And there's this moment of trust, of letting go, and of experiencing without planning ahead. Through these means, the audience of „Blind Date“ can gain a new access to their senses beyond sight and to the non-thinking mind. Most of them retain a feeling of mind-body unity and even relaxation.
Blind Date
In Cologne, „Blind Date“ is part of the larger performance „Room Service,“ which takes place once a year over four days. „Room Service“ started almost 20 years ago, and „Blind Date“ has always been a part of it. We have a lot of experience with different audiences, different people, temperaments, and bodies. We are very keen on exchange and look forward to encounters with interesting people. Furthermore, we are excited about the opportunity to experience „Blind Date“ with a completely new audience.
Following this, we look forward to a debriefing and an exchange of experiences and impressions. For the first time, the performers will also be present and questions may be asked.
